A notch up from the SmartMeasure Cup, this mixing bowl allows you to add and weigh ingredients both by volume and by weight, while preparing the recipe. The scale allows you to convert between the most common units, and tip in the elements with accuracy. Best of all, you can detach the bowl for easy cleaning and stow it separately. Superb!

The Modern Man’s Razor

The Modern Man’s Razor:
The Möbius Shaver, inspired by the unique qualities of the möbius strip, is a unique take on the simple razor that is as puzzling as it is visually stunning. The 1mm stainless steel handle forms a continues band that half-twists at the end to create tension and increased sturdiness. Though it’s an altered form of the common razor, it’s just as ergonomic.

Train Wreck Bike by Colby Higgins

Train Wreck Bike by Colby Higgins:
Train Wreck bike features steampunk style bike with awesome details. The main goal this industrial designer was to bring back iconic form into different and interesting object.
Designer’s own words:
My inspiration was derived from a lot of different sources. I have always had a fascination with old fashion mechanics. We don’t see the technology outwardly exposed enough anymore due to the rise of electronic controls. Often when interesting mechanisms are used, designers are paid to cover them with swoopy and aerodynamic looking fairings or covers. I wanted to bring back the idea of visible raw mechanics and put it into something that we can all relate to. I determined to an extent how it would actually function, and that’s what drove the design. My other goal was to prove that objects and designs can be extremely simple (not always organic) yet still have a very interesting look, in this case a couple of cylinders define the form. I didn’t even touch any heavy duty surfacing tools while making the model (Other than the seat maybe), just tedious parts and details.

Ecko Prosthetic Leg Project : Modern and Stylish Artistic Prosthetic Leg for Graffiti Artists

Ecko Prosthetic Leg Project : Modern and Stylish Artistic Prosthetic Leg for Graffiti Artists:
Ecko Prosthetic Leg is an artistic prosthetic leg designed for graffiti artist or a bicycle messenger. One of many difficult challenges that amputees have to deal with is to regain the feeling of being normal, this is pretty difficult since they have lost the ability to do many things that they never thought about before. Their body has become asymmetric and people notice this. This prosthetic leg design aims to ease both emotional and physical transition that they have to go through after losing the limb. In order to make this prosthetic leg becomes an extension of the user’s style and personality, it’s been design with abstract element. Yes, people are still going to stare, but not in pity or discomfort life before, they will look with amazement or admiration.

Instead of trying to replace the leg with something that look like it, Ecko Prosthetic Leg project abstracted the structure of muscular system of the leg in combination with Ecko branding to fit the amputee’s personal style. This leg is constructed from a mirrored 3D scan of amputee’s intact leg by utilizing point-cloud data, then those parts are 3D printed in order to get biomorphic shapes of the prosthetic. The result is pretty cool, isn’t it?

Doubleback Van

Doubleback Van:
Doubleback Van
With the space of a camper tucked in a van, the Doubleback Van has pulled off an engineering miracle. The back of the Doubleback Van pulls out like a drawer out of a dresser, almost doubling the volume to create a bedroom with a built-in kitchen. All the convenience of a camper, brilliant engineering, and the good old swankiness of a hot 70s van.

One Foot in Front of Another:
The Walking Chair (not to be confused with a walker!) aims to make a parallel between the acts of walking and resting. The chair’s clever leg positioning achieves a visual sensation that the chair is frozen in movement. It really looks caught in mid-dance!

Creating an Object Rotating in Space Video: To Turntable, or Not to Turntable?

Creating an Object Rotating in Space Video: To Turntable, or Not to Turntable?:
0arqballspin_2.jpg

There's more than one way to skin a cat, and recently we've seen this maxim holds true for creators looking to produce a video of their object rotating in space.

With 3D software, it's not difficult to create a video like this of a virtual object you've modeled. And with Autodesk's 123D Catch software, you can use a point-and-shoot to photograph real-life objects, giving you the data you need to achieve the same. But Comp Sci professors Jason Lawrence and Abhi Shelat are attempting to Kickstart the Arqball Spin, a sort of hi-tech/low-tech hybrid that combines software with a physical, rotating platform:

I'm not convinced a physical turntable will trump Autodesk's 123D Catch solution, which requires just the camera; but at press time it seemed Arqball Spin could go either way, with 25 days left and about $14,500 of $40,000 in the bag.
